Nederlanders die langere tijd in Tsjechië leven, stellen vast dat de beide landen veel gemeenschappelijks hebben ondanks de sterk afwijkende talen en culturen. een vand e mogelijke verklaringen is gelegen in de gemeenschappelijke contacten van de beide Moderne Devoties in de middeleeuwen. Het tweede deel van het artikel is voornamelijk daaraan gewijd.

The paper gives a survey of the cultural differences and ressemblance between Czechia and the Netherlands. It seems so that the cultural ressemblances have their roots in the Middle Ages, when Conrad Waldhauser came to the court or Emperor Charles IV inPrague. This was the factical beginning of the so-called prereformation. In the second part of the article the author compares the lives of John Militsch and Geert Groote, as well as the social backgrounds and contacts of the Dutch Modern Devotion and its Czech counterpart.
