The aim of the paper is to present the sketch of the activities of the Byzantine thinker John Argyropoulos (1415- 26th June, 1487) who was one of the important translators of the middle of the 15th century. Argyropoulos is presented as an outstanding translator and educator in Italy who influnced several scholars in Italy and outside of Italy. Argyropoulos wrote also several original commentaries on Aristotle and translated a number of his works into Latin; however, much of his original work remains unprinted. Argyropoulos´ teaching in Florence has been recognised as a ?turning point? in Florentine humanism because he diverted the interest from the emphasis on eloquence to metaphysics. His translations, teaching and involvement in scholarly debates helped to transfer an aspect of his own culture to Italy. The importance of the research on John Argyropoulos? thought consists in the influence of his original commentaries on Aristotle and of his translations of a number of Aristotle?s wor
