El artículo intenta analizar los puntos principales de la ideología carlista a lo largo del siglo XIX. Se trataba de una ideología vaga, patética, a veces maniquea, pero aun así era capaz de movilizar a centenares de miles de habitantes de Espana que seunirían a una insurrección armada contra el Estado liberal y el orden capitalista de la sociedad. La base de la ideología carlista consistía en el retorno al pasado, al paraíso perdido del mundo comprensible de la sociedad medieval basada en las corporaciones y las jerarquías naturales.

The article analyses the main points of the Carlist ideology in course of the 19th century. It was a vague, pathetic and frequently Manichean ideology, but still it was able to arouse hundreds of thousands of the inhabitants of Spain into armed insurrection against the liberal state and the capitalist social order. The substance of the Carlist ideology is a return to the past, to the lost paradise of the comprehensible world of the medieval corporative society with its natural hierarchy.
