De geschiedenis van de neerlandistiek in voormalig Tsjechoslowakije wijkt enigszins af van die in andere Centraal-Europese landen. Binnen een klein gebied met 15 miljoen inwoners zijn er liefst 5 faciliteiten neerlanidstiek - Praag (1921), Bratislava (1927/1990), Brno (1947), Olomouc (1947/1991) en Ružomberok (2002). De academische studie van het Nederlands heeft een traditie die teruggaat tot 1919 en sinsdien nooit is gestopt. De stichter was František Kalda (1884-1969) die sinds 1908 actief was op ditgebied. Andere belangrijke personen waren prof. dr. Přemysl Janota (1926-2008), doc. PhDr. Olga Krijtová (*1931), prof. Phdr. Jana Rakšányiová, CSc. (*1949), dr. Aimé van Santen (1917-1988), doc. Mgr. Adam Bžoch, CSc. (*1966) en doc. dr. Wilken Engelbrecht (*1962).

The history of Dutch Studies in former Czechoslovakia is somewhat different from that in other countries. Within a small area with some 15 million inhabitants, there are five facilities for Dutch Studies - Prague (1921), Bratislava (1927/1990), Brno (1947), Olomouc (1947/1991) and Ružomberok (2002). The academic study of Dutch has a tradition which dates back as far as 1919 and has never stopped since then. The founding fathe rof Dutch Studies was František Kalda (1884-1969) who was active in the fieldfrom 1908 onwards. Other important persons were prof. dr. Přemysl Janota (1926-2008), doc. PhDr. Olga Krijtová (*1931), prof. Phdr. Jana Rakšányiová, CSc. (*1949), dr. Aimé van Santen (1917-1988), doc. Mgr. Adam Bžoch, CSc. (*1966) and doc. dr. Wilken Engelbrecht (*1962).
