The aim of this article is to show the basic principles of my in-progress research on Czech, German, English and Spanish phraseology from the point of view of cognitive linguistics. This paper presents the main theoretical perspectives, the working material, and the methodology of the research regarding the so-called Linguistic Picture of the World and its reflection in the phraseology of four languages - Czech, German, English and Spanish. These languages represent four European cultures and consequently four linguistic pictures of the world. To illustrate the methodology of my research this paper will include a short sample of expressions from the semantic field of colours.
