Max Zweig's Concept of "New Jewish Identity": An Attempt to Unravel his Dysfunctional Relationship to Palestine/Israel
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Based on a case study on Max Zweig, a Moravian Jewish playwright, the presented paper aims to shed light on the transformation of the identity of German speaking Jewry from Moravia in Palestine and in the later State of Israel during and after the WWII.Via the analysis of chosen plays it examines Zweig's ambivalent relationship to this land, generally valid also for many other culturally active German speaking immigrants from Central Europe. As a reason of this ambivalence we can generally consider thetension between the emotional connection with the Jewish state and bitter experience consisting first of the loss of the original home - the land of origin and culturally linguistic environment - and consequent bitter confrontation with the reality of the "promised land", now the State of Israel, providing only a minimum response to the works of German writing authors.
