Fatherhood as a Mode of Life and Style of Life
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The text focuses on the tensions between the traditional understanding of fatherhood and its implementation by individual fathers in the situation of its transformations. In this context, the term lifestyle is to some extent understood as an individual choice of how to be a father and a way of life as a framework in which fatherhood is discursively defined. Today, there are an increasing number of fathers devoted to their children to an extent previously unseen, and fatherhood is highly individual. At the same time, fathers experience an uncertainty in terms of their role ? the fact that the paternal mode of life has ceased to be codified in strictly social terms indicates that fathers are not offered generally accepted cultural scripts to follow whenassuming the role of father. However, it is also true that fatherhood can become a way of life to a much greater extent than motherhood because it is much more loosely defined.
