En este libro se realiza un estudio pionero en el área de la historia social del deporte, en el que se reconstruye por primera vez la génesis del surf en Espana a través del estudio y análisis de entrevistas con pioneros de diferentes partes de Espana, de documentos escritos, de fotografías y de prensa. Se trata de un estudio en perspectiva comparada, no solo en cada uno de los núcleos donde surgió el surf en Espana (Atlántico, Cantábrico y Mediterráneo), sino también de una comparación con otros paísescomo EEUU, Perú, Francia, Reino Unido y Portugal. Se trata de un trabajo exploratorio, descriptivo y comparativo, que finalmente trata de explicar desde una perpectiva socioeconómica por qué surgió el surf en la Espa?a de los 60, durante el régimen no democrático de la dictadura franquista.

In the context of the studies of social history and sport history, and the importance of sport to understand culture in modern societies, this research it brings something new, an issue never explored before. Based on the following sources: a) interviewsin depth with pioneers from different parts of Spain; b) the study and analysis of documents such as letters, pictures and official documents; c) the Spanish press from the beginning of the 20th century; d) and bibliographical sources, it has been reconstructed, described and explained for the first time the history of the art of riding waves in Spain. It has been studied the origins, the political context in which surf appeared (Franco regime), who were the pioneers, how they shaped their surfboards,how they organized themselves, how was the influences of foreigners, how was the representations of surfing in the Spanish press, and the socio-political framework which explain why surf started in Spain in the 60's during the Franco regi
