The article deals with the questions of identity in the novel Fruit of the Lemon by the British novelist Andrea Levy. Levy explores these topics over a span of a several generations. The article explores the protagonist's quest for identiy and her familyheritage. Levy shows the multiplicity of faces that British identity has acquired in the fifty years that had passed between 1945 and the writing of the book in the context of the post-war Caribbean-European diaspora.
