In der Geschichte von Regionalzentren vermischen sich auf eine spezifische Art und Weise die aus dem Zentrum kommenden Impulse mit lokalen Bedürfnissen und Traditionen. Solche Tendenzen sind auch in der altehrwürdigen Stadt Olomouc, in einem der regionalen Zentren von Mittel und teilweise auch Nordmähren, zu beobachten. Die Stadt hat eine langjährige Geschichte, in der seit Jahrhunderten die Musikkultur eines kirchlich aristokratischen Stils gefragt war. Die einzige öffentliche Institution mit einem ständigen Musikbetrieb war die Oper. Wie die ernste Musik, so konnte auch die populäre Musik in Olomouc nach dem Jahre 1989 auf eine relativ umfangreiche Geschichte aufbauen. Insbesondere Jazz hatte in der Metropole von Mettelmähren eine lange Tradition.

For the history of regional centers the fusion of specific impulses coming from the central scenes with the local needs and traditions is typical. These tendencies are also to be found in historical city of Olomouc, which has always been a natural centreof the region of Cenral and partly also Northern Moravia. The city has its long history, for centuries connected with the needs of church-aristocratic scheme of music culture. The only public institution with permanent operation was opera. As well as inthe case of art music, also the popular music life in Olomouc after the 1989 has been growing from the rich history. The longest tradition in the metropolis of Central Moravia had especially jazz music.
