The aim of the paper is to describe accounting rules in General Commercial Code of 1862 and analyse its value for accounting praxis during the Austria (Austro-Hungarian) Empire and the first Czechoslovak state. The research is primarily based on the historical analysis of accounting legal resources. The major benefit is the paper show stability of accounting rules despite turbulent changes of the political establishment and economic development at the end of the 19th and in the first half of 20th century in the Czech region.
