Der Beitrag zeigt, dass es sich bei Max Brods Studie Der Prager Kreis (1963) nicht um eine Weiterführung seiner autobiographischen Schriften handelt, sondern um ein wissenschaftliches Modell zur Beschreibung des Phänomens Prager deutsche Literatur. Dies wird vor allem daran deutlich, dass er Franz Werfel, den er in der Autobiographie als größte Enttäuschung seines Lebens bezeichnet, als literarisches Zentrum der Prager Literatur anerkennt. Darüber hinaus wendet sich Brod gegen das Modell einer Dichotomie zwischen metropolitaner Prager und regionaler Literatur (Eisner, Goldstücker). Brods Konzeption ist somit ein früher Versuch um eine inter- und intrakulturelle Darstellung der deutschsprachigen Literatur in den Böhmischen Ländern.

The paper shows that Max Brod's study The Prague Circle (1963) is not a continuation of his autobiographical texts, but a scientific model for a description of the Prague German literature phenomenon. This is especially obvious in the fact that Brod describes Franz Werfel as the greatest disappointment of his life in his autobiography, but in The Prague Circle, he recognizes Werfel as a literary center of Prague literature. Furthermore, Brod also turns against the dichotomy model of a metropolitan Prague literature and a regional literature from Bohemia and Moravia (Eisner, Goldstücker). Brod's conception is to be seen as an early attempt at an intercultural and intracultural representation of the German literature from Bohemia and Moravia.
