Kheil’s system of double-entry bookkeeping is an original system designed by Karl Petr Kheil Sr. which took hold in the Czech lands in the second half of the 19th century, as a result of the influential role that Kheil played in the field of bookkeeping in the region. This article aims to explain the principles of the system and to present an account of the life and work of Karl Petr Kheil Sr., this with special respect to his endeavours in the domain of pedagogy as well as his research and publishing on bookkeeping.
