Sorela or Dutch literature through Czech socialist realistic eyes (1945-1990)
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Between the takeover of Czechoslovak government in 1948 by the Czechoslovak Communist Party KSČ and the so-called Velvet Revolution of 17 November 1989, Socialist Realistic Literature, or for short Sorela, was the official literary ideology in Czechoslovakia. This ideology was not only a question of "import" from the Soviet-Union as many people think. Sorela had firm roots in pre-War ideas of progressive writers' groups. The idea of Proletkult has been defined as early as 1921 by the then anarcho-communist writer Stanislav Kostka Neumann, still considered as one of the most important Czech writers of the 20th century. Sorela became a real ideology during the Stalinist era (1949-1953) and once more in the so-called Normalisation period after 1968 (for literature in fact: 1971). The chapter shows the impact of Sorela on the reception of Dutch written literature in Czech translation.
