Ideology and neuroscience: A very apt connexion?
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The term "ideology" has experienced a significant upheaval in understanding since its initial theoretical manifestation. Dating back to the 18th century, ideology had been part of science. Subsequently, however, ideology has become a societal bête noire, due to Napoleon Bonaparte’s pejorative conception of it. Notwithstanding the optimistic assumptions proposing the end of ideology in the 1990s, this paper argues that the crucial distinction between two basic ideological groups of liberals and conservatives represents a germane key concept even nowadays. In order to supply evidence, three related analytical approaches are introduced. The application of neuroscientific methods has proved that the brains of conservatives differ from liberals considerably. Nevertheless, the theme shall not be seen merely from a political perspective, because the findings may be consequently utilised within other fields, too. In this area, the neuroethical question exemplifies the complexity of neuropolitics as a whole.
