The chapter is aimed to analyze the existing material about shrines and pilgrimage in South Kazakhstan with its characteristic variety of types of shrines. Also attention is drawn to various new forms of pilgrimage which had acquired a place in the region in connection with the changes in society, culture and religion at the end of the twentieth – at the beginning of twenty first century.
