Why Do We Not Hear the Praise of Skillful Women Who Are Writing Books about it? Early Modern Obstetric Manuals from the German-Speaking Regions from a Gender Perspective
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The present study is aimed at outlining the main differences and meeting points in the midwifery manuals written by three midwives from the German-Speaking Regions (Justina Siegemund, Anna Elisabeth Horenburg and Barbara Wiedemann) and the texts the authors (or translators) of which were physicians and surgeons from the same regions and which date back to the same time. It also attempts to demonstrate in what way these Early Modern midwifery manuals, and the information in them, were gendered and how the gender of a good male or female assistant at childbirth was formed.
