Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This chapter focuses on free personal pronouns in Malayo-Polynesian languages from SE Asia, discussing number, person, and clusivity as well as other pronominal features such as social register and the dual use of the 1PL.INCL pronoun *kita. MP pronoun systems show much uniformity and stability. They often distinguish singular vs. plural but may also use dual, trial, and quadral number, while some systems have lost all number distinction. In some languages the interplay between dual and clusivity calls for an alignment involving a minimal vs. augmented.distinction. MPSEA languages generally distinguish 1st, 2nd and 3rd person. Loss of pronominal distinction and change of original referent also occur. The chapteralso addresses the role of status and the pronominal use of proper names terms expressing kinship, profession, rank or ethnicity, the behaviour of ‘imposters’ (othercategories used in place of pronouns) and to the need to abandon a rigid noun versus pronoun division.
