The Problem of Normality in the Question of Intersubjectivity
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Edmund Husserl applied the notions of normality and abnormality ofhuman experience in the context of his reflections on the constitution of the objective world. Normality was defined by Husserl by means of the notions of concordance and optimality which complement the related phenomena of typicality and familiarity. However, normality is manifest only if it fails or reaches its limits. Only through the abnormal do we often realize what is normal. The mutually constitutive intertwining of the questions of normality and anomaly also implicates the problem of intersubjectivity especially in its liminal forms. The aim of this paper will be to show how we can approach the definition of normality phenomenologically and how normality is constituted in the definition of intersubjectivity. At the same time, the paper addresses normality as a prerequisite for the investigation of liminal subjects. In the context of exploring intersubjective relations, liminal forms of intersubjectivity generate empathy, although a modified form of empathy. It is precisely empathy that connects seemingly overly heterogeneous groups of subjects but in doing so it constitutes the intersubjective world as we know it.
