La migración es un tema recurrente en la sociedad de la América Latina. La imagen del migrante ocupa en la narrativa latinoamericana un lugar notable. El presente ensayo retrata el tema del exilio y el uso de testimonio histórico en el ámbito de la ficción literaria latinoamericana. Para dicho propósito, se ha realizado un análisis histórico-narratológico de la novela «Insensatez» (2004) del escritor salvadoreño Horacio Castellanos Moya, quién nos sitúa ante sucesos históricos documentados de Guatemala durante su guerra civil y las masacres a poblaciones indígenas. La importancia de este autor y su obra radica, como bien menciona la crítica, no solo por su tema de migración forzada sino también por los cruces de la cultura mestiza de la región centroamericana y la reivindicación de la cultura maya.

The image of the migrant occupies a notable place in Latin American narrative. This essay explores the theme of exile and the use of historical testimony in Latin American literary fiction. To this end, a historical-narratological analysis of the novel "Insensatez" (2004) by Salvadoran writer Horacio Castellanos Moya has been conducted. It presents documented historical events in Guatemala during its civil war and the massacres of indigenous populations. The importance of this author and his work lies, as the critics rightly point out, not only in its theme of forced migration but also in the intersections between the mestizo culture of the Central American region and the vindication of the Mayan culture.
