L'article s'appuie sur trois concepts théoriques de l'espace dans une œuvre littéraire, à savoir la poétique de l'espace heureux du philosophe et épistémologue français Gaston Bachelard, puis sur la théorie de la mémoire historique des lieux de la littéraire tchèque Daniela Hodrová, et enfin sur l'approche géopoétique spatiale de l'espace du théoricien français Bertrand Westphal et de la géocritique québécoise Rachel Bouvet, où l'œuvre est comprise comme une carte dans laquelle des personnages individuels laissent leurs traces. L'auteur est vu comme un géographe cartographiant l'espace avec son œuvre. À travers le prisme de ces trois approches théoriques, nous analysons le travail de l'auteure française d'origine auvergnate Marie-Hélène Lafon, qui dans ses romans et essais cartographie l'espace rural en voie de disparition des solitudes montagnardes du Massif Central français. Nous choisissons le motif spécifique d'une maison rurale de montagne comme métaphore de l'habitation humaine de l'espace. En analysant les romans Les Derniers Indiens, Sources et Joseph et L'Annonce, nous trouvons et définissons toute une gamme d'images de la maison aux significations différentes, depuis les opposés complets de la maison de l'espace heureux de Bachelard, jusqu'à l'identification absolue avec son concept. Nous remarquons la mémoire ancestrale des lieux et montrons comment une personne moderne habite un espace rural traditionnel.

Inhabiting Space in Marie-Hélène Lafon. The House as a Metaphor for the Human Habitation of Space

The article is based on three theoretical concepts of space in a literary work, namely the poetics of happy space by the French philosopher and epistemologist Gaston Bachelard, then on the theory of the historical memory of places by the Czech literary scholar Daniela Hodrová, and finally on the geopoetic spatial approach to space by the French theorist Bertrand Westphal and the Quebec geocritic Rachel Bouvet, where the work is understood as a map in which individual characters leave their traces. The author is seen as a geographer mapping space with his work. Through the prism of these three theoretical approaches, we analyze the work of the French author from the Auvergne region Marie-Helene Lafon, who in her novels and essays maps the vanishing rural space of the mountain solitudes of the French Massif Central. We choose the specific motif of a rural mountain house as a metaphor for human habitation of space. Analyzing the novels Les Derniers Indiens, Sources, and Joseph and L'Annonce, we find and define a whole range of images of the house of different meanings, from the complete opposites of the house of Bachelard's happy space, to the absolute identification with its concept. We notice the ancestral memory of places and show how a modern person inhabits a traditional rural space.
