Apuntes sobre el teatro de Cervantes y su Numancia: de denostado a innovador

¿Por qué el teatro de Cervantes ha pasado desapercibido, incluso denostado en algunos momentos, hasta bien entrado el siglo XX? ¿Cuáles fueron las características de aquel primer teatro cervantino (1581-1586), concretamente el de Numancia, y dónde se ha situado su obra entre la crítica contemporánea? A través de una exhaustiva revisión bibliográfica de las fuentes relevantes, se organizará un conjunto de respuestas en torno a varios temas: las primeras referencias al teatro de Cervantes, los primeros estudios académicos, su lugar en la tragedia renacentista, su alejamiento de los postulados aristotélicos, su aproximación a la tragedia de Séneca y, finalmente, algunas notas sobre el carácter innovador de Numancia.

Why has Cervantes' theater gone unrecognized, even denigrated at certain times, until well into the twentieth century? What were the characteristics of that first Cervantes' theater (1581-1586), specifically of Numancia, and where has his work been placed among contemporary critics? Through an exhaustive bibliographical review of relevant sources, a set of answers will be organized around several themes: the first references to Cervantes' theater, the first academic studies, his place in Renaissance tragedy, his distancing from Aristotelian postulates, his approach to Seneca's tragedy, and finally, some notes on the innovative character of Numancia.
