Hexenverfolgung und Hexenprozesse sind seit vielen Jahren ein beliebtes Thema vor allem für Historiker und Rechtshistoriker, derzeit aber auch zunehmend für Psychologen und Soziologen. Bereits vor zwanzig Jahren wurde das Thema auch Gegenstand linguistischer Forschungen, vor allem auf graphemischer, morphosyntaktischer und textueller Ebene. Die vorliegende Studie präsentiert Teilergebnisse einer historiolinguistischen Untersuchung auf lexikalischer Ebene, in der die Entwicklung der Bedeutung zweier zentraler Begriffe im Bereich der Magie – Zauberin und Hexe – im Mittelpunkt stand. Angesichts der allgemein bekannten engen Beziehung zwischen der lexikalischen Ebene der Sprache und außersprachlichen Bereichen wird in der Studie zunächst kurz der historische Hintergrund des Kampfes gegen die Ausübenden schädlicher Magie vorgestellt. Anschließend wird die historische Entwicklung beider Begriffe vom Althochdeutschen bis zum Frühneuhochdeutschen charakterisiert. Die durchgeführte Untersuchung befasste sich mit der Analyse zweier linguistischer Korpora – eines Korpus ausgewählter Texte zum Thema Magie, die in den Jahren 1235–1704 entstanden sind, und eines lexikalischen Korpus, das im Rahmen der Untersuchung von Verhörprotokollen aus Hexenprozessen in Velké Losiny (Nordmähren) aus dem letzten Viertel des 17. Jahrhunderts entstanden ist. Gegenstand der historiolinguistischen Analyse dieser Korpora war es, das Vorkommen der beiden genannten Begriffe festzustellen und die Entwicklung ihrer Bedeutung zu verfolgen. Die Forschungsergebnisse werden in der Studie durch zahlreiche Beispiele aus beiden Korpora ergänzt, wodurch die Studie konkrete Belege für die Entwicklung der lexikalischen Bedeutung liefert, deren Ursachen in erster Linie im kirchlichen, aber auch im rechtlichen Bereich zu suchen sind.

Witch hunts and witch trials have been a popular research topic for many years, mainly for historians and legal historians, recently even more often for psychologists and sociologists. As early as twenty years ago, they were analyzed in linguistics as well, mostly with respect to graphemics, morphosyntax and text linguistics. This study presents partial results of a diachronic lexicology research, in which the focus was put on the semantic shift of the two key terms in the field of magic, i.e. Zauberin and Hexe. Given the well-known close relationship between the lexical level of language and its extralinguistic features, the study first briefly presents the historical background of the fight against practitioners of black magic. Subsequently, the historical development of both terms from the Old High German period to the Early New High German period is characterized. The carried-out research concerns the analysis of two linguistic corpora – a corpus of selected texts relating to magic created in the years 1235–1704 and a lexical corpus created as part of a research on interrogation records of witch trials from Velké Losiny (in North Moravia) from the end of the 17th century. The diachronic analysis of these corpora aims to determine the occurrence of both of the terms mentioned above and to study their semantic shift. The research results are presented with numerous examples from both corpora, thus providing concrete evidence of the development of lexical semantics, the causes of which are to be found primarily in the field of church and law.
