In recent years, several disciplines in the field of humanities have broadened their research perspectives by adopting interdisciplinary approaches to the study of early modern sources, frequently integrating digital technologies. This approach aims to critical assess the potential and constraints of historical sources, considering their inherent fragmentation and biases. This contribution aligns with this research direction and seeks to investigate, through historical and quantitative analysis, the correspondence of the prince-bishop of Olomouc Karl von Lichtenstein-Castelcorno (1624-1695, bishop from 1664) with his most influential correspondents at the Holy See during the final three decades of the seventeenth century (1666-1695). By creating datasets and graphs using the statistical software R, and applying the methodology of egocentric network analysis, the study seeks to identify the most enduring connections within the bishop’s epistolary network, highlighting both the types of communication and the structure of his connections. Furthermore, the research explores the bishop’s interactions with cardinals, popes, and prominent secretaries of the Roman Curia throughout his thirty-year episcopate in Olomouc.
