Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The chapter “The Municipal Theatre in Olomouc as a Cultural Suburb of Vienna” analyzes the German Municipal Theatre in Olomouc as a cultural “suburb” of Vienna at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The author demonstrates that the Olomouc opera scene was programmatically oriented toward the Vienna Court Opera, systematically emulating its repertoire, production models, and artistic standards. Drawing on contemporary press reports, archival materials, and production records, the study shows how theatre directors sought to transfer Viennese premieres, scenographic concepts, and celebrated singers into a provincial setting. The chapter situates this cultural alignment within the broader framework of national and political tensions in Olomouc, where the German community used the theatre to affirm its cultural affiliation with the imperial center. The Olomouc theatre thus emerges not as a culturally marginal institution but as an active site of aspirational emulation, cultural transfer, and symbolic integration within the Habsburg cultural sphere.
