Mediation in the context of law acquaintance
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
As mediation and its support across the European Union have been growing, we can assume that the public is better aware of this option of dispute resolution. The aim of this paper is to introduce mediation and law acquaintance, focus on mediation and present the results of our own public awareness research about mediation in the Czech Republic. The empirical findings of the authors are based on a questionnaire done via the CAWI method on a representative sample of the Czech population. The aim of the questionnaires and subsequent statistical data analysis was to identify the awareness of mediation and how this awareness differs across individual characteristics in the Czech Republic. The result of the investigation is that the awareness of mediation is very low. And the knowledge of specific mediation aspects is even worse. The questionnaire survey shows that this knowledge is higher among people with higher education, among middle-aged people and older people living in bigger municipalities. These findings show that targeted awareness campaigns and development of other motivation factors for using mediation is necessary.
