Für die Konferenz interessant waren folgende Fragestellungen: 1) Was kann über die traditionsgeschichtlichen Hintergründe des Jakobusbriefs im frühen Judentum und Alten Testament gesagt werden? Lässt sich der weisheitliche Hintergrund des Textes weiter präzisieren? Welche anderen Traditionen, Vorstellungen und Motive spielen eine Rolle? 2) Welche Stellung kommt dem Text im frühen Christentum zu? Welcher historische und theologische Ort kommt dem Text in den Debatten des frühen Christentums (mit Paulus, matthäischem Christentum, der Didache) um entscheidende Fragen von Theologie (Christologie, Soteriologie, Ethik, Ekklesiologie ...) und Identität (Abgrenzung gegen Israel? Teil Israels? Abgrenzung gegen die Völker? Markierungen eigener Identität) zu? 3) Welche Rolle spielt der Text (diachron) für die Entstehung des neutestamentlichen Kanons? Welche Spuren der Rezeption des Textes finden sich? Und schließlich: welche Rolle kommt ihm (synchron) im heutigen Kanon des Neuen Testaments zu?

For the conference the following questions were interesting: 1) What can be said about the historical background of the Letter of James in early Judaism and the Old Testament? Is it possible to be more precise terms about the sapiential background of the text? Which other traditions, conceptions and motives play a specific role? 2) Where does the text belong in the early Christianity? Which historical and theological position did the text have in the debate of the early Christianity (with Paul, Matthean Christianity, Didache) with reference to the crucial questions of theology (Christology, Soteriology, ethic, ecclesiology...) and identity (delimitation vis-a-vis Israel? Part of Israel? Delimitation via-a-vis gentiles? Brandings of own identity)? 3) Which role does the text play (diachronic) for the formation of the canon of the New Testament? Which traces of the reception of the text can be found? And finally, what role does it play (synchronic) in the present Canon of the New Testament?
