Methodological Aspects of Measurement and Identification of Risk Factors of the Can Syndrome
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Background: The aim of the study was to verify the possibility of identifying the main features and risk factors of fatal violence against children by means of a measurement tool for estimating the risk of violence against children in their family environment in the Czech and Slovak environment. Methods: Pilot testing of the tool assessing the risk of child abuse. Data were pooled from autopsy reports (n=52) of children up to the age of five and form information about the symptoms and risks of CAN syndrome from social workers in the Czech and Slovak Republics who were willing to fill in a questionnaire to test the estimation of the risk of violence against the child in the environment of his/her family in the Czech and Slovak environment (n=59).Results: The instrument under review is not sensitive for capturing the risk of fatal violence against children and needs to be revised for this purpose. Conclusion: The validation process showed that individual items in the questionnaire are relevant for monitored forms of CAN syndrome. However, the overall format of diagnostic questionnaire is problematic and needs to be revised. The revision of the questionnaire should consist in simplification and greater plasticity. The weighting of risk factors should be transformed so that the cumulative effect of fatal risks is more obvious. Greater emphasis should be placed on the risk factors that emerged from the analysis presented.
