This paper examines Clement of Alexandria’s doctrine of the divine Logos as presented in the Paedagogus, highlighting its multifaceted and dynamic nature. Clement distinguishes three main forms of the Logos: as immanent in the Father, as manifested through creation, and as incarnated in Jesus. The study emphasizes that the Logos serves as the communicable intermediary between the transcendent, unknowable God and humanity. Through allegories and scriptural exegesis, Clement illustrates how the Logos adapts its forms for human understanding and salvation. Despite the plurality of manifestations, the ontological unity of the Logos remains intact, with divine love (agape) as the underlying principle. The incarnation is interpreted not only as a historical event but as the Logos’ assumption of forms suitable for human participation. Clement’s theology opposes Gnostic dualism, affirming the rational accessibility and unity of the Logos. Ultimately, the various forms of the Logos in the Paedagogus function as epistemological icons, making the divine mystery accessible to humanity through the multiform expression of divine love.
