L’articolo analizza alcune interpretazioni del Concilio di Nicea sviluppatesi nel XX secolo, con l’obiettivo di mettere in luce il nesso tra la rilettura del dogma niceno e le proposte di rinnovamento della teologia trinitaria e cristologica. Vengono esaminate le posizioni di B. Welte e H. Mühlen, orientate rispettivamente al superamento della metafisica greca e alla reinterpretazione del dogma niceno alla luce della Scrittura e nella prospettiva dell’evento pasquale. Particolare attenzione è dedicata a P.A. Florenskij, che concepisce Nicea come una svolta epocale nel rapporto tra fede e ragione. Lo studio mostra come queste diverse prospettive, pur muovendosi in direzioni differenti, convergano nell’indicare la possibilità di un fecondo ripensamento della dottrina trinitaria e cristologica. In conclusione, si segnala la consonanza dell’interpretazione di Florenskij con il recente documento della Commissione Teologica Internazionale su Nicea (2025), che riafferma il valore del Simbolo niceno quale paradigma di permanente attualità per la fede, la teologia e la vita ecclesiale.

Interpretations of Nicaea in the 20th century and the renewal of Trinitarian theology

The article analyses some interpretations of the Council of Nicaea developed in the 20th century, with the aim of highlighting the connection between the reinterpretation of the Nicene dogma and proposals for the renewal of Trinitarian and Christological theology. It examines the positions of B. Welte and H. Mühlen, oriented respectively towards overcoming Greek metaphysics and reinterpreting Nicene dogma in the light of Scripture and from the perspective of the Paschal event. Particular attention is paid to P.A. Florensky, who conceives of Nicaea as an epochal turning point in the relationship between faith and reason. The study shows how these different perspectives, while moving in different directions, converge in pointing to the possibility of a fruitful rethinking of Trinitarian and Christological doctrine. The conclusion shows the consonance of Florensky&apos;s interpretation with the recent document of the International Theological Commission on Nicaea (2025), which reaffirms the value of the Nicene Creed as a paradigm of permanent relevance for faith, theology and ecclesial life.
