Catalytic reaction of cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
An enzyme, formerly named cytokinin oxidase, specifically degrades all cytokinins of isopentenyl adenine and zeatin type producing adenine and the corresponding side-chain aldehyde. The enzyme is encoded by a small gene family in Arabidopsis and apparently in other species as well, including the monocots maize, rice, barley, and wheat. Recent studies by our group have shown, however, that the enzyme appears unlikely to utilize oxygen but other electron acceptors in the catalytic reaction. Number of artificial electron acceptors have been described, such as phenazine methosufate, 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol, methylene blue and 3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone with E0' values in the range of 0.08-0.22 V. Since the classification as a dehydrogenasebetter conforms with the character of the enzymatic reaction, a new number EC 1.5.99.12 has been assigned to this enzyme that is renamed to cytokinin dehydrogenase (CKX). We present further characterization of the redox catalytic reaction
