In the last few years, structural changes in the Czech economy, expecially in industry, have influenced both the role and the importance of the extraction and processing of minerals and materials of mineral origin. The index of the mineral production share of the GDP reflects these changes, having decreased from 3,7% in 1993 to 1,3% in 2003.The mining industry has to a large extent a negative impact on the environment.
