Report on a great tit Parus major in active moult in winter and with an unusual postnuptial moult pattern.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In Great Tit Parus major the first moult (postjuvenile moult) is partial with often a variable number of moulting coverts, while the second moult (postnuptial moult) is complete. The extent of moult depends on several factors e. g. age: adult birds moultmore feathers than juveniles, sex: males moulting more feathers than females, season interacting with photoperiod: birds from late broods or second broods have often less moulted feathers, geographical location: more northerly populations moult less , and year: between years within the same study site the extent of moult can be very variable. On March 19, 2006 we caught a great tit female aged as an adult (EURING code 6) bird. The bird had its greater coverts in active moult. The GC 1-3 were postnuptial, GC 4 unmoulted, GC 5-7 were actively moulting, GC 8-10 were unmoulted. Of the three moulting GC, GC 5 was scored as 2 (following the feather scoring system of Ginn & Melville 1983), while the remaining two were just in pin and were ass
