Taphonomy of cremation burials: excavation and deposition bias in bone preservation
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Cremains are usually undervalued in cremation graves, fragmentary, and few resist manipulation. On a set of eight cremation burials from the site Jevíčko-Předměstí (2nd century AD), we investigated the effect of burial type (urn / well) and the influenceof laboratory techniques (micro-excavation, application of computed tomography CT) on the final preservation degree of bones. We found that funerals, which were prepared by micro-excavation, were significantly better preserved than bones which were sieved and floated. Furthermore, micro-excavation method allows to examine spatial relations between individual bones. CT application allowed us to discover new features in two burials in the form of the original bone container and we could observe through CT the dislocation of bone fragments and fragments of metal artifacts beyond the grave itself. Based on the obtained results, we recommend to standardize the procedure for the analysis of cremation burials, use micro-excavation to recover
