Migration of Highly Skilled Workers from India to Czechia: Truly "Privileged"?

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

A substantial body of literature analyses the effects of the migration of highly skilled workers on receiving countries primarily from the point of view of strengthening the states' economies and the spread of technological progress and knowledge. However, with the dependence of the global economy on highly skilled migrants, topics related to the challenges they have to face during their migration process also come to the fore. While there is a focus on the privileged migrants or "expats," there is less literature on this type of migration from the Global South countries, including India. These migrants often have an above-average education but can find it challenging to integrate into the host country society due to its structural barriers. This paper sheds light on the patterns, challenges, and aspirations associated with the migration of Indian professionals to Czechia. This country has been less researched in terms of highly skilled migration, yet undergoes economic development and globalization that creates a growing interest in attracting and retaining highly skilled workers to contribute to various sectors of the Czech economy. By offering analysis of the Indian migration to Czechia, this study aims to critically engage with the existing body of knowledge on global mobility and provide insight into the context of privileged migration to Czechia.
