The recent research of the virulence structure in German population of Bremia lactucae showed the substantial changes in the frequency of different virulence factors (v-factors). During last period R-genes Dm 11, Dm 16, R18 and LSal (derived from L. saligna) have been used for the host resistance management. However, the durability of resistance was very unstable. Detailed studies of four B. lactucae isolates originating from lettuce cultivars with R18 a RLSal clearly demonstrated that in recent lettuceassortment with race-specific R-genes there is no efficient resistance against lettuce downy mildew.
