This is the history of European thinking. I begin in the thirteenth century, when European thinking started, and I continue all the way up to the present, where ideals change into reality. In the first part of each profile, I let the personalitities speak for themselves; the second part briefly summarizes the basic biographical data # details may usually be found in standard encyclopaedias; the core of the portrait lies in the third part, where I try to summarize how the specific personality contributed to the analysis of the problems and perspectives of Europe, to the creation of the ideal of the harmonic coexistence, cooperation, and unification of the nations of our continent, i. e. to #European-ness#, and in the fourth, bibliographical part I l ist those of their works which are related to the topics I have analysed.
