Evaluation of Colorectal Cancer Awareness among High School Students - Preliminary findings

The aim of this paper is to present the activities that are currently being implemented in the framework of the Student grant competition of Palacký University in Olomouc which is called "Evaluation of secondary school students in raising the issue of malignant diseases of the colon and creation of multimedia educational materials." The grant is focused on raising awareness of malignant tumors of the colon at the level of secondary education and its core activity is educational research focused on identifying the state of awareness of students of higher degrees at gymnasia (secondary schools) of Olomouc in the above mentioned issues. The empirical survey itself shows the general knowledge of students about cancer as a disease and the status of their awareness of the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and especially prevention of colorectal cancer, which succumbs almost 10,000 people in the Czech Republic every year. This paper delivers first results of the research.
