Possible Applications of Flotation-REST and its Effects on Human Psychophysiology Regarding Stress, Anxiety and Depression
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This study summarizes the findings of the flotation REST technique and its effect on stress, anxiety and depression from a psychophysiological perspective. Flotation REST is a specific form of relaxation environment invented in the 1950s and researched mainly in the field of psychology and physiology. It is a hydrotherapeutic device working with the restriction of external stimuli. Hence the research-established acronym REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique). In the Czech Republic, this technique, under the name of floating, is mainly used in spa centres and wellness facilities. In foreign research, especially in the USA, Canada and Sweden, flotation REST has proven to be a unique method in the field of applied psychophysiology. It has proven to be a technique with predictable psychophysiological effects and as a useful application tool that could serve in the treatment of some somatic diseases and psychiatric disorders. The aim of this paper is to summarize the effects of this method on both physiological and psychological levels in the areas of stress, anxiety and depression and to raise awareness regarding the development and potential use of this technique.
