The Center of Adapted Physical Activities as an example of best practice in the Czech Republic - introduction, vision and inspiration
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Since its start the Center for Adapted Physical Activities (APA Center) has been an exceptional center not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Central and Eastern Europe. It started in 2007, as part of a project supported by the European Social Fund and mainly focused on inclusion of students with physical disabilities. At that time APA Center was running several projects, which enabled pilot start of new job positions – Adapted Physical Activity Consultants (APA consultants). These consultants started to deliver APA related services in 7 (out of 14) regions of the Czech Republic. Their activities and financial support enabled the fulfillment of the visions of the original founders Martin Kudláček and Ondřej Ješina, who were inspired by services for support of inclusive education and adapted physical activities in the USA and Finland. A significant inspiration was also close cooperation with the management of the CARA Center in Ireland during two international projects. The support of the Faculty of Physical Education at Palacky University and the pioneer work of founders of Czech adapted physical activity are undoubtedly behind the success of the APA Center and the Department of Adapted Physical Activity.
