Connected Performance: Redefining Remote Music Collaboration with MVTP

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

This poster presents findings from an experimental study examining the practical use of the ultra low-latency audiovisual streaming technology Modular Video Transmission Platform (MVTP) in synchronous distance music collaboration within higher music education. Conducted between two leading Czech music academies (JAMU and AMU), the research explored whether MVTP can enable authentic real-time interaction between students and teachers at geographically distant locations while preserving professional standards of sound and image. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining applied experimentation with qualitative data collection through observations, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. Students and educators took part in three experimental sessions focusing on piano performance, percussion ensemble, and jazz improvisation. Each session followed a structured workflow involving technical setup, live collaboration using MVTP, and reflective evaluation. The results demonstrate that MVTP delivers highly responsive communication with nearly imperceptible latency, supporting full-fledged remote music-making in both classical and improvisational settings. The study also identified key technical requirements for successful implementation and highlighted the need for pedagogical frameworks that integrate technological and human dimensions.
