The role of export taxes in the field of primary commodities

This paper deals with a simple theoretical analysis of the impact of an export tax on an exporting country and its trading partners. It is focused on the costs and benefits of using export taxes to address the issue of volatility of commodity prices, tariff escalation, government revenue, income redistribution and as an industrial policy. The paper concludes by showing explicitly the welfare effects of export taxes on both the exporting and the importing countries.
