The stochastic programming problem of tree harvesting planning in a medium size logging company in Czech Republic is treated. The mathematical programming model of the optimal utilisation of machine harvesters and manual operators for cutting, and horses, tractors, lift and specialized trucks for transporting, when minimum total costs are required, is formulated based on the real cost characteristics of the machine and human resources. The environmental restriction concerning the soil preservation- currently not fully taken into account by logging companies - is considered, the respective constraint is developed and incorporated into the model. The solution of the optimization model considering the environmental restriction is compared to the solutionof the model without soil preservation constraint and the applicability of the results in the decision making of small and medium logging companies is discussed.
