This work will therefore examine the main features and characteristics of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Council of the European Union in order to confirm or disprove their alleged democratic deficit of any kind that may result from their institutional design and structure or the actual perception and establishment of the European Union itself. In addition to this, although the European Union is considered as organization sui generis, its system of governance will be compared to the system of governance of the most similar entity in contemporary world - which happen to be the USA - with aim to reveal the possible insufficiencies of the European Union in terms of democracy.
