Bankruptcy Prediction Based on Data Envelopment Analysis
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This article focuses on the classification based on data envelopment analysis for bankruptcy prediction of engineering companies in the EU. Data envelopment analysis is a technique developed in operational research that is typically used for efficiency evaluation. In this article, the data envelopment analysis method is used to find a "bankruptcy frontier", which makes it possible to classify the companies as active (healthy) or bankrupt. For this purpose an additive model is selected. We deal with 953 small and medium-sized engineering companies in the EU from which 51 companies bankrupted in 2014. All models are based on financial data of companies. With regards to financial theory, a set of 19 characteristics representing the four basic groups of financial indicators (i.e. solvency ratios, liquidity ratios, turnover ratios and profitability ratios) is chosen. The results show that the data envelopment analysis method could be a competitor in the area of bankruptcy prediction for other methods such as support vector machines or logistic regression.
