The objective of the study was to find the marker of vitality of seed potatoes. The production of ethylene and carbon dioxide was studied and the level of abscisic acid was determined in tubers and in apical buds isolated from the tubers in early April (sampling I) and mid-May before planting (sampling II), and in the stage of tuber initiation in June (sampling III) and intensive tuber growth in July (sampling IV) in the aboveground and underground parts of the plant. We compared the variety Karin -- anearly variety with short dormancy with Granola -- a semi-late variety with deeper dormancy.
