Selected biochemical parameters of the blood and seminal plasma and qualitative indicators of the semen in the boars

In the course of 5 months blood samples were collected from 23 breeding boars to determine selected biochemical parameters of the blood plasma. The mean of glucose, cholesterol, total lipids and urea concentrations were 3.33 mmol .l-1, mmol .l-1, 2.71 g.l-1 and 6.15 mmol .l-1, respectively. During the entire period of investigations the average ejaculate volume, sperm concentration and sperm motility of all the boars was respectively 303.20 cm3, 0.43 . 106. mm-3 and 89.0%. The average total number of sperm in the ejaculate was 130.49 . 109 and the total number of motile sperm in the ejaculate 116.12 . 109. A statistically highly significant (P< 0.01) negative correlation was discovered between the concentration of the plasma glucose of boars and ejaculate volume (rp = -0.27) and between the concentration of total lipids and concentration of sperm (rp = -0.27).
