Influence of catch crops on yield and quality of spring barley
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Influence of catch crops on the yield and quality of spring barley were observed. A field experiment was conducted in maize production area in Zabcice (South Moravia, Czech Republic) which is one of the warmest and driest regions in the Czech Republic. Ten species of catch crops were observed. Stands of catch crops were established in August after harvest of winter wheat. Catch crops were left on the plot till spring. Plots were divided into two parts, one part was without nitrogen fertilization and thesecond part was fertilized by nitrogen (60 kg ha-1). Spring barley was sown directly to the crop residues. The highest yields of dry mass catch crops were reached regularly by Sinapis alba, Raphanus sativus v. oleifera, Phacelia tanacetifolia and Crambeabyssinica. Catch crops can have beneficial influence on yield and quality of spring barley in combination with sufficient nitrogen fertilization and water uptake even in one of the warmest and driest region in the Czech Republic.
