The tests of drilling machines carried out in Podbořany (Czech Republic) and Pellendorf (Austria) in 1997 are described. The tests concerned evaluation of horizontal and vertical cereal grain distribution and evaluation of growth intensity during the earThe analyses of results revealed that none of the drilling machines was the best or the worst at all parameters evaluated. For example, a high level of soil cultivation can be associated with a lower quality of sowing and vice versa. The conclusions aimed at the evaluation of the methodological approach used and the properties of the drilling machines are worked out.
