Foreign direct investments in the balance of payments in the Czech Republic

The foreign direct investments are joined with the process of the world globalization. They are largely realized with the multinational corporations. The basic forms of the foreign direct investments compose: "greenfields", it means floatation of the subsidiary company or the affiliated company in the foreign countries; the investments in present firms in the form of the acquisitions or the fusions; "brownfields" in the form of the privatization. The basic motives of the realization of the foreign direct investments are: the foreign market access, the cheap raw materials, the cheap labour, the elimination of the tariff barriers, the reduction of the exchange rate fluctuations, the profitable tax terms or the investment incentives. The Czech Republic has shown a massive influx of foreign direct investments since 1998. The influx of foreign direct investments presents positive aspects, but large risks as well.
